Boise State QB Transfer Cade Fennegan Commits to BYU

BYU adds a QB to the roster.

BYU has added another QB to its QB room as Boise State QB Cade Fennegan announced he will transfer to BYU.

Fennegan committed to BYU after his LDS mission in January 2020 and also had scholarship offers from USC, Southern Miss, North Texas, among others. He prepped at Woodrow Wilson High School in Texas.

Fennegan played this past season due to injury, including the BYU game where he played the bulk of it after filling in for injured QB Jack Sears. Versus BYU Fennegan completed 15-26 passes for 2 TDs and 1 interception. One of Fennegan’s passes in that game was this 52-yard TD pass.

Fennegan will still be a true freshman this season since last season did not count against eligibility. He gives BYU QB depth for the future and another young QB in the pipeline. Fennegan told me that he will sit out and redshirt this year since he did not meet the July 1 cutoff to enter the transfer portal and be immediately eligible. BYU has adequate QB depth at the moment, so that shouldn’t be an issue.

During his high school career, Fennegan threw for over 6400 yards, 94 TDs and had 18 rushing TDs. Cade is the son of former BYU player Garth Fennegan, who was on the BYU roster from 1990-1993.
