SALT LAKE CITY — Stop if you’ve heard this before: a Jimmer Fredette-led basketball team is headed to the Round of 16 of a national tournament.

This time, he’s bringing along plenty of former BYU teammates, including Charles Abouo and Brandon Davies.

Fredette scored 30 points Sunday to lead Team Fredette to a 99-89 win over the Jackson TN UnderDawgs at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, in the second round of the $2 million, winner-take-all The Basketball Tournament.

"We played much better today," Fredette told ESPN after the game. "Our team did a great job. I didn’t play very well, but the team did a great job of picking us up."

Davies added 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting for Team Fredette, and former All-MAC guard Jordon Crawford supplied 12 points and eight rebounds.

"Jordon is unbelievable," Fredette said of the Bowling Green alum. "I played with him (with the Westchester Knicks in the NBA developmental league), and I’ve know him for a while. He’s an unbelievable player, is very athletic, can make moves and he can make the extra pass. He’s one of my favorite teammates I played with."

Jeremy Weddle had 19 points to lead the UnderDawgs.

Fredette added 32 points in the team’s opening-round win over the Peoria All-Stars in his first game as a player in the tournament. He helped coach Team Fredette during its inaugural The Basketball Tournament in 2017, but the squad lost to Team Utah in the first round.

"I'm not a coach yet. It's too nerve-wracking for me," Fredette joked. "I like to be out there and play, to have the game in my hands. But our team did a great job today, and we have a great coach in Mike Taylor."

Davies supplied 21 points in Saturday's win over Peoria, and Ra’Shad James — who grew up near Fredette in White Plains, New York — scored 14 for Team Fredette.

In other local teams in the tournament, Team Utah lost to Gonzaga alums Few Good Men 84-83 in the opening round.

Team Fredette will play the Fort Wayne Champs at 5 p.m. MDT Friday in the Super 16 in Atlanta.
