SALT LAKE CITY – The College Sports on SiriusXM Best Mascot Bracket has taken on life for BYU and Western Kentucky fans in support of their beloved Cosmo and Big Red.
Both Cosmo and Western Kentucky’s Big Red enter the Elite 8 of the bracket and up to this point, they have been dominating their opponents in the online voting. What’s funny is that neither one of these mascots were originally in the first field of 64.

SiriusXM released a new bracket shortly after that included Cosmo and Big Red. Each was given 16-seeds in play-in games. They’ve definitely played their way through the tournament as both fan bases are fired up to give their mascot the title of being the best-masked character.

Cosmo and Big Red are crushing their competition
So far, Cosmo has emerged as the favorite to win the tournament. BYU fans have helped catapult (from the three-point line?) Cosmo to wins over Boston College’s Baldwin The Eagle in a play-in round, then the East’s No. 1 seed Duke Blue Devil, followed by a round of 32 defeat over Maryland’s Testudo. On Wednesday, Cosmo held off a late run from Michigan State’s Sparty to advance to the Elite 8.

Every matchup involving Cosmo leads to a barrage of BYU fans tweeting their support of the man who’s been a viral sensation the past few years. One fan named Andrew wrote, “You had a good run, Sparty. Unfortunately, you have been hit with the Cosmo matchup. Happy trails to you.”
Cosmo is defeating his opponents by an average of 47.75% per contest. So far in the tournament, Cosmo has received the most votes followed closely by Western Kentucky’s Big Red.
It would seem the two are on a collision course towards the championship round. If that happens, it might be the most compelling sporting event we’ve seen since we’ve all been quarantined.
But first, they will each have to get through their Elite 8 matchups first with BYU fans gearing up to lead Cosmo against Penn State’s Nittany Lion and Big Red taking on Smokey from Tennessee.
