BYU junior-to-be Jonathan Tavernari and former Cougar All-American Rafael Araujo are members of the Brazilian Senior National Team currently playing at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Athens, Greece. The top three teams in the qualifying tournament will advance to play in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing this August.

BYU junior Jonathan Tavernari made the Brazilian Olympic qualifying team and will play in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament between today and July 20 in Athens, Greece.

With a record-breaking 10 freshmen selected in the first round, finding a spot for the upperclassmen, including BYU junior forward Trent Plaisted, seemed like a stretch. Lucky for Plaisted, the Detroit Pistons didn't think so.

Former BYU basketball player Travis Hansen hopes to be wearing red, white and blue at the Olympics this summer for Russia. The U.S. has the same colors as Russia, where Hansen has been embraced for his basketball skills and humanitarian efforts.

Trent Plaisted's decision to leave BYU early for the NBA paid off Thursday when Seattle traded its No. 46 pick to take the former Cougar junior, a selection traded to Detroit.

NEW YORK -- The Seattle Supersonics selected former BYU forward/center Trent Plaisted with the 16th pick in the second round (No. 46 overall) of the 2008 NBA Draft Thursday, marking the third Cougar in the past six years to be selected in the NBA Draft. A proposed trade would send Plaisted to play for the Detroit Pistons.
