BYU's men's volleyball team takes on Cal State Northridge on Saturday night at 8 p.m. MT as the MPSF conference tournament begins. Thursday, three BYU players were honored as all-conference selections.

Catching up on a busy Saturday for BYU's sports teams...... * The No. 5-ranked BYU men's volleyball team downed No. 10 UCLA 3-1 on Saturday night in the Smith Fieldhouse. The win avenged a 3-1 loss to the Bruins on Friday night.

BYU men's volleyball player Futi Tavana has been honored for his performances in the Cougars' sweep of Long Beach State last weekend. Tavana, a 6-foot-8 redshirt freshman, is a middle blocker from Kalaheo, Hawaii. He is the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week.

There is another part of Air Forces offense, which makes them unique to defend, cut blocks. It’s not that the cut blocks are vicious or dirty; it’s just that they take a certain amount of focus to defend to insure that you aren’t left lying of your back as a cadet scurries past you.

BYU will host the 2009 NCAA men's volleyball national championships in Provo next May, the school announced this morning in a joint news conference with the NCAA.
