Freshman sensation Ben Patch scored four of his match-high 25 kills in the decisive fifth set to help the top-ranked BYU mens volleyball team rally past scrappy, upstart Hawaii, 25-19, 20-25, 22-25, 25-12, 15-13 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation quarterfinal in Provo, Utah.

After finishing the regular season at 22-4 and ranked No. 1 in the nation, BYU's men's volleyball team focuses its sights on downing the Warriors in the first round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament.

While No. 1 BYU (6-3, 4-2 MPSF) struggled to replace All-American Taylor Sander, the top outside hitter in the country so far this season, No. 7 Stanford (7-2, 4-1 MPSF) thrived off career-best performances to down the Cougars twice.

BYU's men's volleyball team takes on Cal State Northridge on Saturday night at 8 p.m. MT as the MPSF conference tournament begins. Thursday, three BYU players were honored as all-conference selections.

Catching up on a busy Saturday for BYU's sports teams...... * The No. 5-ranked BYU men's volleyball team downed No. 10 UCLA 3-1 on Saturday night in the Smith Fieldhouse. The win avenged a 3-1 loss to the Bruins on Friday night.

BYU men's volleyball player Futi Tavana has been honored for his performances in the Cougars' sweep of Long Beach State last weekend. Tavana, a 6-foot-8 redshirt freshman, is a middle blocker from Kalaheo, Hawaii. He is the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week.
