Got this note from BYU baseball sports information honcho Ralph Zobell today.... Once again Sleepy Ridge is the site of this year's Eighth Annual Golf Tournament hosted by the BYU baseball team on Friday, Sept. 18. The shotgun start will be at 8:30 a.m.

BYU pitcher Marc Oslund was named to the all-tournament team at the 2009 Mountain West Conference baseball tournament wrapped up Saturday afternoon in Fort Worth, Texas. Oslund, a 6-foot-5 righthander from Torrance, Calif., was the only BYU player on the all-tourney team.

BYU stayed alive at the Mountain West Conference baseball tournament on Thursday with a 5-1 win over New Mexico, eliminating the Lobos. The Cougars play TCU at 2 p.m. MT in a bid to stay in the double-elimination tournament.

The Cougars beat Utah five of six times in the regular season, but dropped a heartbreaker to the Utes Tuesday at the Mountain West Conference baseball tournament, falling 2-1 in 10 innings. Utah's Tyler Yagi, a former Skyline High star, hit a two-out single to score Cooper Blanc for the game winner.

BYU's first-round opponent in the 2009 Mountain West Conference baseball tournament will be none other than the University of Utah. The Utes and Cougars will meet for the 308th time on Tuesday in Fort Worth, Texas , at 4 p.m. MDT.

The Cougars are probably longshots to get an at-large bid to the NCAA Baseball Tournament if they don't win the Mountain West Conference tournament at TCU next week, but Tuesday night's 4-2 win over Washington certainly helped their cause.

BYU's baseball game against UNLV lasted three hours and 20 minutes on Thursday night, so the results did not make some of the local papers. Jordan Muir and Chad Nacapoy paced BYU's baseball team to a 15-12 victory over UNLV at Larry H. Miller Field.

Friday night was not kind to BYU's baseball and softball teams, both of which lost heartbreakers late. At Fort Worth, Texas, TCU catcher Bryan Holaday hit a two-run home run with two outs in the 10th inning to give the No. 15-ranked Frogs a 5-3 win over the Cougars.
